Overview of Course Offerings
 

Web-based Training (WBT):

The following 6 WBT Courses provide online access to fundamental information necessary for Child Protective Workers.  The courses should be taken in the order listed.  Each course provides a series of modules and review quizzes to allow the student to learn and then test their knowledge as they progress through the course.  

Each course is designed to take approximately two hours.

• SP100 - Overview of Child Welfare
• SP103 - Legal Fundamentals
• SP104 - Medical Fundamentals
• SP105 - Understanding Substance Use Disorders, Treatment and Family Recovery: A Guide for Child Welfare Professionals
• SP106 - Domestic Violence
• SP107 - Impact of Child Abuse on Child Development

In addition to the 8 Iowa CPTA courses, two other web-based courses are available:

• HS001 - Confidentiality is Key
• HS003 - Confidentiality Part 2: Privacy & Security

Basic Classroom-based Courses:

• CP200 - Basic Training Course
• SP150 - Child Welfare Practice in Iowa

Intermediate Classroom-based Courses:

• SP300 - Application of Legal and Medical Issues to Child Abuse Assessments
• SP301 - Impact of Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse on Abuse

Advanced Classroom-based Courses:

• SP302 - Advanced Medical Training
• SP534 - Family Team Decision Making: Preparation, Facilitation, Planning & Follow-up
